Ban Saleuan Village
Ban Saleuan has a warm and friendly atmosphere and we are blessed to have forged such a close relationship with this village. It’s a simple village where time seems to stand still and the likelihood of seeing another ‘falang’ is minimal. “Bpai sa sa” as they say in Lao. (Go slowly).
Governed by the seasons, village life is ever-changing. Local villagers can be spotted in the rice fields or attending to their water buffalo. Harvesting lentils, nuts and a variety of other tasty organic produce. Some may be weaving basket while others repairing their fishing nets. Everyday is different and one must not forget to go with the flow.
Your English-speaking guide will be with you to ensure your experience is not only insightful, but also carefree and pleasurable. There will be opportunities to try your hand at traditional Lao fishing. Learn about Lao cooking with your host. Or perhaps a game of soccer with the local kids. Just let your guide know. They are happy to arrange for you.
Ban Saleuan Cave Trek
The trek to the caves leads through rice fields behind the village and up into the jungle forest. The trek takes roughly one hour (give or take) and involves a steep but manageable climb up to the cave entrance. The local kids are fun to have along and are great guides. Smiles!
Tad Kuang Si Waterfalls
The largest and most breath-taking of Luang Prabang’s waterfalls. Tad Kuang Si boasts an impressive three tiers of falls, culminating in a sensational 50 meter cascade, before spilling into a series of mineral-rich turquoise pools. The water in Kuang Si’s shallow pools remains cool throughout the year. Therefore a popular swimming spot for locals and tourists alike. Especially in the summer months when escaping the heat becomes a priority.
Free the Bears Rescue Centre
Located near the entrance to the falls, Free the Bears provides a home to over forty Asiatic black bears confiscated from poachers intent on selling them to bile-harvesting-farms. Each of the large enclosures have viewing platforms where you can watch the bears as they eat, snooze and play. Thank you “Free the Bears” for all the hard conservation work you do!
Kuang Si Butterfly Park
Opening its doors in January 2014 the butterfly park aims to raise awareness about the vulnerability of Laos’ ecosystem and educate locals about the values of preservation. Visitors are encouraged to wander through their landscaped rock gardens or sit and enjoy a latte at their fish pond cafe.
